Neshaminy High School Class of 1959 “Un-Reunion” Dear Classmate: (This message is being sent to all NHS 59’ers who’ve shared their e-mail addresses, plus those within about 150 miles of NHS whose snail-mail addresses we have. Please share the news with more distant travelers you think might like to attend.) Our “Big 5-0” reunion is still two years away, but let’s not wait ’til then to get together!
We’re throwing an informal party This will be a no-frills event. Just show up to greet old friends, choose whatever beverages and food you want, and “pay as you go”. (We’ve negotiated a discount for the group on beer, wine & cocktails.) This is a nice place for a party. Take a look at their web site (www.temperancehouse.com), where you’ll find tavern and restaurant menus, driving directions, and a map. There’s no program and no agenda – just an evening to enjoy friendly conversations and to share nostalgia and news. We look forward to seeing you there! Of course, spouses and significant others are welcome too. The Temperance House is located at 5 South State Street in Newtown, near the center of town. There’s some parking on the street, and ample free parking in public lots behind the businesses on the opposite side of State Street. (Enter off of Washington Ave.)
If you will attend (and
we hope you will), please do us a big favor and R.S.V.P. to Burnell
Brown by Thursday, October 25 - Phone: 215-925-0233
e-mail:
burbrown@yahoo.com This will help us confirm the group discount.
NESHAMINY
HIGH SCHOOL The Golf Outing scheduled for Friday, October 21st was cancelled due to inclement weather. The evening’s activities at the American Legion were held as planned. The Committee did a wonderful job supplying a nice selection of snacks. Friday evening we had 39 attend. There were 31 from our class, including guests: President Pat and Sally Patterson, Hal Berman, Burnell Brown, Ellen (Choman) Gifford, Mary (Evans) Belser, Matt (Jim) and Kathy Fisher, Jim and Lea Flanigan, Nancy (Forrest) and George Stockburger, Sue (Hall) and Carmine DeCrescente, Margaret (Hershey) van Biene, Evelyn (Hunt) White, Charlie Lauble, Jim and Kim Lawrence (Jim left NHS our Sophomore year), Bill Loessy, Pat (Morasch) Hibbs, Helen (Morris) and Roger Cobert, Suzanna (Murray) Cody, Dean Paist, Joan (Paxson) Bodnar, Frank Raab, Judy (Reeder) Stalford, Bill and Kay Tomlinson, and Nancy (Weeks) Bryan. Eight from other classes who attended were: Hank Adams, ’57, Suzanna (Murray) Cody’s sister Carolee (Class of 61-62 - don’t ask), Andy Davis, ’56, Bill Fischer, ’58, Don Mather, ’58 who was the American Legion Bar Tender, Gerry Mladjen, ’58, Bruce Simon, ’62 (Rich Simon’s brother) and, I believe, another fellow with Bruce whose name I missed. Nancy Weeks Bryan conducted a 50/50 and collected $205 to help defray expenses. It was decided to split the pay out portion two ways. The winners were Andy Davis, ’56 and Burnell Brown, ’59. Burnell requested the money be donated back to the Treasury. Saturday, October 22nd, it was still raining! There were a few brave folks who showed up to tailgate. Early arrivals were the Patterson’s, Charlie Lauble and Jim Flanigan. The Patterson’s weren’t prepared for that type of weather so opted to head home to Ohio. Margaret (Hershey) van Biene and Sue (Hall) DeCrescente missed the Patterson’s due to arriving later. One of the highlights was seeing and taking photos with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Franks. The cheer leaders, band and football team have become more sophisticated than in our day. However, Margaret and I agreed “our” cheerleaders led more cheers during the course of a game. It was fun seeing the enthusiasm of the crowd – especially cheering NHS to a 41 to 13 victory over North Penn. In the PA State HS Football Rankings for Class AAAA, Neshaminy is ranked #1 as of this writing. President Pat felt, as did I, that even though we didn’t have many people attend the mini-reunion, those who did seemed to have a super time. We were glad we tried the mini-reunion, but apparently every five years is enough. Please keep us advised of changes to your e-mail and/or address. Check NHS website at www.neshaminy.com. We’ll be in touch prior to celebrating our “50th” sometime in 2009.
Best wishes to all!
